Celebrate Hood River’s harvest season at the 34th annual Hood River Valley Harvest Fest on October 14-16, 2016, presented by Pacific Power and produced by the Hood River County Chamber of Commerce. This old-fashioned fall festival brings together more than 125 vendors offering local produce and food products, plus arts and crafts, wine, cider and beer tastings. Held along the scenic Hood River waterfront, this is the Columbia River Gorge’s biggest celebration of the region’s incredible fall bounty.

New for 2016 is an expanded Full Sail Brewing Entertainment Tent, with local musical acts performing throughout the festival. Thanks to the tent’s new central location, the music – which ranges from bluegrass to classic rock – will add a fun, live soundtrack to the festivities. There is also beer, hard cider and wine on tap at the tent, and proceeds will benefit The Arc of the Mid-Columbia.

Festival-goers can load up on boxes of Hood River favorites, including fresh pears, apples, pumpkins, berries and flowers, and a wide variety of local foods, from pies and jams to smoked salmon and chocolate-covered cherries. Hood River Valley Harvest Fest is also a great place to get a jump-start on holiday shopping, thanks to numerous local artisans.

Youngsters will love the kids’ activity area, complete with bouncy houses, face painting and other activities, including a petting zoo from the local 4-H club. They can also watch world-record giant pumpkin carver Scott Cully craft detailed designs into a 600-pound pumpkin. All festival-goers ages 15 and up are invited to take part in the popular pie eating contests on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Extend your Stay

Hood River Valley Harvest Fest takes place during autumn, one of Hood River’s showcase seasons. The summer crowds have dissipated, fall harvest is in full swing, and the trees in the Gorge and Hood River Valley are turning beautiful fall colors. Visitors can easily turn Harvest Fest into a long vacation weekend by going apple picking along the Hood River County Fruit Loop, biking the scenic Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail from Hood River to Mosier, and feasting on farm-to-table dinners at local restaurants.

Beer lovers who want to go to the source can visit more than 10 independent breweries on both sides of the Columbia River. Breweries in the Gorge (BIG) offers a map and passport on its website, breweriesinthegorge.com. For more top Hood River autumn activities, go to hoodriver.org/hood-rivers-top-fall-activities.
